Here is a comment that was added to a client’s recent online order:

“Please make sure this order gets to Binh Lam (AKA - “The Rackmount Ranger”). He’s the best!”

Tom Allen, Director of Information Technology

Rackmount Ranger gets his own website!

The Rackmount Ranger, ISC’s trademarked and copyrighted cartoon figure has landed his own site. The Rackmount Ranger grew out of the red ISC man in our logo. As such, he has become the spokesman for all issues related to rack mounting, and is now available to answer your questions on his own “blog.” You can reach him at www.askrackmountranger.com.

Periodically, we will post one of Rackmount Ranger’s more interesting questions and answers for the benefit of our clients. Here is the inaugural one.

Question for the Ranger: Can the ERK-Z4 brackets be used to bolt down any cabinet?

The short answer is no. The long answer is not so simple as it really depends on the building codes in your municipality. In general there are three issues related to bolting down a computer cabinet:
· Structure of the sub-floor and/or raised floor
· Anchor bolts
· Anchor brackets

Kevinisms

A Kevinism is a funny or intriguing statement or idea from our Vice President of Sales, Kevin Hunt. Kevin is a big fan of Sandra Bullock, Pizza Inn black olive pizza, and Dr. Pepper (not necessarily in that order). He is not a big fan of Chinese food, seafood, or other types of “dead” stuff.

Kevin likes to “test” people to see if they can understand what he is telling them in Kevinese. Sometimes the results are interesting, while sometimes Kevin ends up making verbal connections that don’t really exist and have an alternate meaning.

Not too long ago Kevin announced we were going to eat lunch at the Salacious Soupe’ restaurant. What Kevin was trying to say is that we were going to “Souper Salad” which is a very nice chain of restaurants. In Kevinese, salad somehow turns into salacious.

The funny thing is that Kevin did not realize what salacious means. Here is the definition: sa·la·cious [ sə láyshəss ], adjective. Definition: 1. with sexual content: intended to titillate or arouse people sexually, usually by having an explicit erotic content. 2. explicitly sexual: having or showing explicit or crude sexual desire or interest.

Kevin likes to play around with words, but I am sure he did not mean to label one of our regular restaurants as being a salacious facility.

When is a toilet like a salt shaker?

Part 20 Continued from January 2007
Here is the table of the names I have applied to each group of respondents to the survey described in the October 2005 newsletter issue.
The men who prefer the toilet seat up are:
Macho Men
The women who prefer the toilet seat up are:
Fairy Godmothers
The men who prefer the toilet seat down are:
Men of Leisure
The women who prefer the toilet seat down are:
Queens of the Realm
The men who prefer the lid down are:
Paleolithic Men
The women who prefer the lid down are:
Interior Decorators
The men who have no preference are:
Philosopher Kings
The women who have no preference are:
Warrior Princesses

Conclusion

Over the past 19 months, I have defined and discussed the various personality traits men and women exhibit, based on their preference for the position of the toilet seat. I have also discussed how conflicts arise, and how most of those conflicts can be resolved by one person either temporarily or permanently shifting their preference.

I hope you enjoyed reading the story as much as I enjoyed gathering the data and writing about the personalities I discovered. I hope you gained some enlightenment, and maybe had a good laugh or two. After having read the book, if you can at least understand what motivates your partner, then you can possibly change or adapt. Failing to change or adapt, you invite the consequences.

I personally have enjoyed the transition from Philosopher King to Man of Leisure. For the life of me, I can’t imagine why I used to do things differently. Hopefully there will be an equally lasting effect on you. One thing is for sure though. You will never be able to look at a salt shaker again without thinking about the toilet seat.
